Traveling Post-Covid-19 Quarantine

t’s June 15th and I am traveling for the first time in 3 months. The weekend leading up to this trip, I did some quick searches and realized I had a bit of anxiety over what my experience would be like. I thought it might be helpful to those considering getting back to their travel plans, if I blogged a little bit about my experience.

Modernizing Your Approach to Site Architecture in SharePoint and Office 365

If you’ve ever wondered how to structure your SharePoint sites, you’re not alone. For those that have been doing SharePoint for a while, you may already know that we’ve long had the debate – where do your department sites go in SharePoint?  Are they considered publishing sites or collaboration sites? Or both?  Are they sub-sites […]

Building Relationships with Service Providers

Relationships. They make the world go ’round. I’m reflecting on this right now because I’m mulling over a fight. Not a fight in a traditional, fists up, arms swinging kind of fight. The kind of fight you put up when you want something really bad and you put all your effort into getting it. In […]

My Favorite Things

5 Low-cost Tools for SharePoint Site Administrators and Power Users It’s hard to get anything accomplished as you roll out Office 365 if you don’t have the proper tools to get the job done. Unfortunately, we don’t all have the budget to purchase every piece of software that would meet our needs. As power users […]

Drop the “When to Use What” mantra and pick up the Office 365 Toolbox

With the release of Microsoft Teams as yet another application in the Office 365 stack, I’m constantly faced with questions like “What are we going to do with *another* social platform?”  It’s a valid question.  It’s one that I don’t think we are effectively addressing with our “When to Use What” discussion I keep hearing […]

Multipliers and Success with SharePoint (or any new technology)

I’m reading a book right now called Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter (by Liz Wiseman). It’s about accessing the intelligence and potential of people in organizations.  Let me say first that this is not a book review. In fact, I’m still in the first chapter, but it has me thinking a lot […]

I Hang with the Guys – and so should you

I’ve been in IT for nearly 20 years. In high school, I set my sites on a degree in Computer Science at The Ohio State University and never looked back. While I was attending OSU, I had the privilege of joining the Beta chapter of Phi Sigma Rho, an engineering sorority. I was thrilled to […]

Take the plunge with Office 365, what’s holding you back?

Deployment planning…. Seemingly one of the more intimidating things about Office 365. Moving the cheese. Transforming the way people work. It’s exciting! And yet terrifying. On one hand, as the leader of an organization, you hold a responsibility to point the company in the direction of the most efficient way to work – and on […]

The Rise of the Power User

Last Friday, I had the pleasure of presenting at SharePoint Cincy, Breakout: Power User. For a small event, held at MAX Technical Training in Mason, Ohio, it’s worth noting that the attendees were treated with a number of well-known national and international speakers. The keynote was provided by Microsoft Senior Product Manager, Chris McNulty, and […]
