You may get an error when attempting to use Open with Explorer view in SharePoint:
“We’re having a problem opening this location in File Explorer. Add this web site to your Trusted Sites list and try again.”
This particular error can be for several reasons. The most common is typically that you haven’t installed Desktop Experience on the SharePoint Server. However what caught me on this particular project was that it continued to happen, despite having all of the proper pre-requisites!
I had used the SNI (Server Name Indication) checkbox instead of adding an additional IP address to the server to support two SSL enabled Web Applications on the same server.
To resolve the Open in Explorer View issue, I had to add a second IP address to the server, and remove SNI, then reset IIS.
For more detail, see my post on SharePoint, SNI, and HTTP Redirect Issues – this is not the only issue I encountered while attempting to use SNI.
